Elevator Telephones

Telephones in elevator cabs should be placed to the right of the panel. If there is more than one panel, the telephone can go to the right of the right-hand panel when facing the doors from inside. If a handset is provided, the telephone cord should be at least 920 mm long.

The elevator telephone or its cabinet, if there is one, should be labelled with the international symbol for telephones. This symbol should be a minimum of 38 mm tall and raised at least one millimeter from the surrounding surface. The phone should be equipped with a volume control. A telephone receiver should not generate a magnetic field in the area of the receiver cap.

If instructions are provided inside the elevator on how to use the phone, essential information should also be provided in braille.
