Blindness Basics

Audio

Many people impacted by blindness choose to “read” audio formats, either as their primary reading method or in addition to other methods such as large-print or braille. The international standard for audio information for people impacted by blindness and other print disabilities is called DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System). The DAISY Consortium, along with other organizations, has developed free add-ons which can quickly generate fully accessible audio files. The CNIB Foundation encourages organizations to leverage this technology so that a greater number of materials can be created in alternative formats, including accessible audio.
