Width and Landings

Ramps should be at least 1,200 mm wide. Landings should be level and should be provided at all changes of direction. Where the landing meets a slope change, there should be a colour/brightness contrasted strip, 40 – 60 mm deep, across the width of the ramp. This will alert people impacted by blindness to the slope change. The contrasting strip should be slip resistant and located on the sloped surface (not on the landing).

Include a landing at the top and bottom of each ramp run. These landings should be as wide as the widest ramp run leading to or from it, with a minimum length of 1,500 mm. Landings served by doorways should have a minimum surface area of 1,525 x 1,525 mm to allow people enough space to change direction safely and without obstruction. Note that some provincial building codes require larger landings on ramps.
